<b>Silver Jubilee Celebration </b><br>
<p>To commemorate the Silver Jubilee year (1973-98) of the society, a national symposium on .Emerging Scenario in Vegetable Research and Development. was organized at Project Directorate of Vegetable Research, Varanasi from 12th to 14th December, 1998. The symposium was planned for 3 days period with IX sessions. The memorial lectures by the eminent scientists were delivered to pay the glowing tributes to the scientists who served the cause of Vegetable Science and Indian Society of Vegetable Science with various capacities. These memorial lectures were: </p>
<ul>
<li>Shri S.L. Katyal memorial lecture on 'Challenges in Vegetable Production in 21st century'.</li>
<li>Dr. Harbhajan Singh memorial lecture on 'Genetic Resources in Vegetable Crops'. </li>
<li>Dr. B.R. Sharma memorial lecture on 'Breeding for Disease Resistance in Vegetable Crops in India'.</li> 
<li>Dr. S.S. Saini memorial lecture on 'Seed Production and Off season Vegetable Production'.</li> 
</ul>
<p>Besides different technical sessions and memorial lectures, two special lectures,
<ul>
<li>Vegetable Production in South East Asia and Pacific by Dr. Prem Nath and </li>
<li>Intellectual Property Rights: World Trade Organization, Plant Breeder's Right and Plant Variety Protection by Dr. Mangla Rai </li>
</ul>
were delivered during the symposium. </p>
